Search Engine OptimizationMarketing is the practice of positioning your products and services in front of your desired audience. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is the broad term for describing the factors and actions involved with positioning your website to be found when certain keyword phrases are used to search for the products and service your company provides. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the more specific term for revising the browser readable coding, such as HTML, on each page that makes up your website such that each page is clearly a relevant result for the keywords for which it is “optimized”. To use an example, Client company Painting Services, LLC, located in Hartford, Connecticut, has had their brochure style website online at www.PaintingServices.com for some period of time. Their website has never really been used to generate new business. Instead they have used it primarily to provide information for their customers that are already aware of them. In contracting with SpiderGourmet, Painting Services would like to open themselves up to business inquires from search engines. We will, for the purposes of this example, assume that the most important keyword phrase for which they would like their website found is “house painting Hartford ct” This is not an extremely competitive phrase but nonetheless, their website, which had never been previously optimized to received search engine traffic, needs to take several steps before it can expect to receive traffic from search engines. In this example, SpiderGourmet would revise the homepage and supporting pages of their website such that their site is “optimized” for the phrase ”house painting Hartford ct”. The process would involve baseline reporting, statistics tracking implementation, on page optimization, content additions, and a relevant reciprocal linking campaign. The part best described by optimization is the editing of the coding of their homepage and supporting pages to better describe to search engine robots, or spiders, that each page provides some information regarding this company that paints houses in Hartford, CT. |
